List of 8 Book Series I Like

Just a note before we start. Some of these books are self published, meaning the best way to read them is through an e-reader like the Kindle. Also, not all of these series are complete. In order to be on this list, I have to have read every book of the series that has come out so far.

I'm not going to go into to much plot summary, so I've linked the amazon pages to these books in their titles. Go read the book description on there to learn more! Plus, its an easy download link if you have a Kindle.

1) The Emperor's Edge Series

I love this series. I love this series. Have I mentioned I love this series?

It seems that authors these days think that female lead needs to be cold, unfriendly, and stubborn in order to be strong (I'm looking at you Katniss Everdeen!). Amaranthe, the female lead of this series, is friendly, feminine, and strong as hell. This is a female lead done right (not that the Hunger Games did it wrong...I just prefer these types of heroines).

The dialogue is witty, the characters are lovable, and the story-line keeps you wanting more. Go read this series! Did I mention the first book is free for the kindle?

In this series there's a popular, handsome chosen one, who sets off to save the beautiful damsel in distress. The main character is none of the above. He's just some guy. But he's an amazingly dorky and lovable guy who you get to watch morph into a bad-ass.

The fight scenes in this series are incredible. It is honestly one of the most original fantasy series I've read in a while.

Speaking of strong female leads, Penryn is another great one. She is brave, relate-able, and doesn't have Katniss syndrome. Now you might be apprehensive about reading this series since its incomplete, but I can say that the second book doesn't end in a way that leaves you hanging. It pauses in a good spot to leave you wanting more, but not complete cliff-hanger status.

This series has no fillers, takes no breaks, and doesn't add in unnecessary detail. Its a pulse-pounding, blood-rushing epic from start to finish. And my favorite part? It takes place in the area I'm from!

Ok, so this series isn't really called "The Thief". However, I think the actual series title is kind of a spoiler to the first book, so I'm just going to leave it as this.

Don't let the first book of this series fool you. The style of the rest of the series is completely different, as in the-second-book-is-written-in-third-person-while-the-first-book-is-written-in-first-person different. But the first book is still decently good and you need to read it in order to understand the rest of the series. My personal favorite is the third book, followed closely by the second.

This series again is also incomplete, but does not end on a cliff-hanger. You know there's a bigger pictured that will be addressed in a future book, but as of now, you are fine just leaving this series as is.

This series is one of the first I read when I first got my Kindle. I loved the world, the characters, and the action driven story-line.

Now, this series is probably not for everyone, especially if you are easily offended or squeamish about violence. On the other hand, if you aren't go ahead and enjoy a great story about an orphan who morphs into one of the greatest assassins that ever was.

This series is a modern take on some classic fairy tales.

The first book is definitely the weakest of the bunch, and I found it quite predictable. However, I still enjoyed it immensely. What I love the most about this series is that a new set of characters are introduced every book, leading up to an awesome amalgamation of epicness. Each book is better and more exciting than the last, and the stakes just keep rising. I really hope the 4th (and I believe final) book lives up to this trend.

This series is one of the most original action/fantasy/(sci-fi?) books I have ever come across. It is also one of the most exciting. The main girl's life is turned upside down in every definition and re-definition of the word life.

Note that I am giving a cliffhanger warning for this series. Also, be warned that this series isn't as lighthearted as a lot of the other ones on my list. Some of the themes addressed in this series are abuse, addiction, and suicide. If you're in the mood for a pick-me-up, turn around and walk away.

Woot! Yet another series where the first book is free for the Kindle!

Now let me tell you something, vampire books aren't usually my thing. After the whole Twilight media craze, it was all aboard the blood-sucking bandwagon for a lot of authors and I had no interest in any of it.

Surprisingly, I really liked this series. It definitely does vampires in a whole other way than Twilight. Other than both of them containing romance the two series really aren't comparable as far as vampire books go. This series is dark, captivating, and has some great fight scenes.

Another great feature about this series is how self aware it is. The main guy is quite possessive, but knows that its a flaw and doesn't romanticize it. Stalking isn't cool kids!
